Apple Updates Safari Browser

Apple Inc. has announced today that it has patched 13 known vulnerabilities in Safari. The update ups the browser to Version 3.1.

The new Safari, which Apple has proclaimed to be “the world’s fastest Web browser for Mac and Windows PCs,” has fixed ten flaws that affect both Mac and Windows versions, and three that are native to Safari for Windows XP and Windows Vista.

The majority of the 13 vulnerabilities were cross-site scripting bugs, which are big security holes.

Only one of the patched bugs carried Apple’s most dire warning, that the flaw could result in “arbitrary code execution,” which lets malicious hackers access systems.

Unlike competitors such as Microsoft Corp., Apple does not use a rating system to note the seriousness of individual vulnerabilities
